Quick Cut Greens Harvester Hacks: Boost Your Harvest Efficiency

If you’re serious about harvesting salad greens efficiently, you know that having the right tools and techniques can make all the difference. At our farm, we’ve fine-tuned our approach to using the Quick Cut Greens Harvester, and today, we’re sharing our top hacks to help you get the most out of this essential tool.

Hack 1: Remove the Front Wire

The first modification we made was removing the front wire that typically holds the drill locked in place, facing forward. This tweak allows the drill to turn freely when cutting salad greens. Drill facing backwards while cutting. To unload the salad into the container, swing the drill facing forward with your right hand, as you slide your left hand on the top bar away from yourself.

This setup enhances ergonomics and speed, especially when you’re holding the top bar with your left hand and sliding it away from yourself. This method is not only more comfortable but also significantly faster when transferring the harvested greens into your container.

Hack 2: Choose the Right Drill

We’ve tested various models, and the DeWalt drill has proven to be the best choice. Here’s why:

  • Affordability: It’s reasonably priced compared to other options.
  • Lightweight: Easier to handle for extended periods.
  • Efficiency: the drills rotation is faster catching the salad more efficiently

Hack 3: Optimal Battery Use

Using a 2-amp battery ensures that the drill remains light, yet powerful enough for efficient harvesting. Keeping the battery well-charged is crucial to maintaining this balance of power and weight.

Hack 4: Modify the Top Bar

We found the sponge on the top bar to be restrictive, inhibiting being able to slide your hand easily, so we removed it. This modification allows for smoother movement of your left hand up and down the bar, facilitating better pivot control while unloading the salad. To maintain a good grip and protect the bar, we covered it entirely with electrical heat shrink.

Hack 5: Proper Harvesting Stance

Your stance while harvesting can impact your efficiency and comfort:

  • Squat with Your Legs: This supports your back and keeps your center of gravity low.
  • Stay Close to the Cutting Point: Being closer to the greens provides better control, resulting in a higher-quality harvest.

Maintenance Tips

To keep your Quick Cut Greens Harvester in top condition, we recommend:

  • Replacement Blades: Having spare blades on hand ensures you’re always ready for the next harvest.
  • Spare Parts Box: Keeping a box of spare parts allows for quick fixes and minimizes downtime.
