This one crop will pay you back threefold
Pea Shoots are a multipurpose crop which we grow year round.
The first growth we harvest as a pea tendril which takes 12 days to grow in summer and 23 days in winter.
These taste like sugar snap peas and are a great garnish for restaurants and beautiful in salads also.
The regrowth will fix nitrogen and put a huge amount of residual into your soil fast
We plant 1kg of dry seed over 3/4 square meter. Pre-soak the seed overnight before planting on a flat surface that has been gently pre-pressed with plywood. This step is key for even germination. Then place the plywood over the seeds and press down hard to create seed-to-soil contact. This helps all seeds germinate evenly. Place as much heavy weight on top to promote fast even germination. Remove the plywood and weights when the shoots are 5mm tall and cover them with a layer of 70% shade net to protect them from bad weather and birds eating the shoots.
